From the supplier: The University of Utah offers COMPUTER TUTOR, a challenging, interactive educational software program based on cognitive thinking, covering classes in sociology, psychology, education and political science. Used as a supplement to textbooks, the program asks students to select lessons, view outlines of covered materials, conduct practice exercises, learn concepts and definitions and take essay or math exams. The project designers created careful design criteria for the software. Advantages to the program include the absence of test anxiety and last-minute cramming, reduced costs, improved retention, and closer monitoring of student progress and possible cheating. Surveyed students felt the program helped them master textbook material. Despite some resistance, creators of COMPUTER TUTOR believe educational software is needed to make higher education more accessible. COMPUTER TUTOR provides a model for future educational software for automated university educational programs.
